…in our Chapter President’s backyard! You can literally start your weekend in Robert Gaestel’s backyard, or at least his family’s property on the edge of the Merced River. Join us on Friday, April 12th from noon to 4:00 at the Gaestel Family River Ranch II.
We will meet up at the Bear Creek Inn and caravan over. Spend the afternoon sitting by the water enjoying meat and cheese platters, breads and fruit. Non-alcoholic drinks are provided, but you can BYOB. Spend your afternoon taking rides on the family pontoon boat or other boats for a river cruise. Do some fishing off a boat or fly fishing from the shore. Note: There will be a Porta Potti onsite or bathrooms are 2 miles away (hourly caravans for the ladies if needed).
OR, if you would prefer doing some wine tasting on Friday, check out the local winery, the Vista Ranch and Cellars. It is only 5 miles away.
The Bear Creek Inn will be our meeting and hangout place for the weekend including lunch on Saturday and ending with the Board Meeting being held there on Sunday. Our group has the 5 rooms booked there, so there will always be a smiling face and someone to hang with if you want to stop by. Below are the other 2 hotels that are recommended and are very close by.
Friday night we will spend at THE BRANDING IRON. This restaurant celebrates California’s ranching history with its décor and gets its name from the approximately 200 cattle brands that are displayed throughout the dining area. Their doors first opened in 1952 and its 50 year old neon sign of a cowboy branding a calf has been designated a historical landmark by the city of Merced. Come enjoy a great meal and meet up with old friends and make some new ones.
Saturday is jammed packed with fun starting with a private collection of 50+ original and restored cars, not open to the public. Then off to the Castle Air Museum. The Museum is proud to display the most complete lineage of Bomber Aircraft on the West Coast dating from prior to WWII to the end of the Cold War spanning nearly 70 years. We have secured a price of $20 per person and this will include a tour of a retired Air Force One that was used by Presidents Ronald Reagan and President Clinton, Vice-Presidents Walter Mondale, George H.W. Bush, Dan Quayle, Albert Gore, and Dick Cheney.
Saturday night will be at the Merced Golf & Country Club for dinner and dancing. We will have a DJ from 7-10 for dancing!!! Since last years Table Decorating was so popular, we are doing it again!!! Theme is “Planes, Cars and Boats” or “All Things Merced”; your Choice!! No Contest this year, just fun! Sign up early for a table so you won’t be left out. Call or email Sandy Chase for more information and to reserve you table. email@example.com or 408-219-8353.
Sunday we will hold the Board Meeting at The Bear Creek Inn. After the meeting there are still things to see on your way home. Stop by and see the newest University of California, UC Merced. Right next door is Yosemite Lake, great picture opportunity.
