Wood & Glory XIX Update 3

Thursday June 1 > Sunday June 4, 2017

Clear Lake, Lake County, Northern California

All the boats and people are coming back together again.  19 years ago Jim Robello co founded this event with the calling “A gathering of family and friends to use and enjoy our antique & classic boats on Clear Lake.”  Wood & Glory remains a “Lets Go Boating” event first and foremost, with some social events blended in during the evenings as outlined below.

Susan Mooers reports registrations are being processed, yet wants to remind you that registration closes in just 4 weeks – on May 15th!  Send her your registration pages, or register on line here real soon…please.

The Thomas’ report the water has receded from their February flooded Corinthian Bay home.  Their Thursday dinner party will be a happening again this year at the Buckingham Homeowner’s Association facilities.  It’ll be a casual indoor / outdoor gathering, yet Donna and Judy McManus will not be cooking for us!  The venue is bring your own BBQ entrée and adult beverages and the balance of the meal sorts out as a Whoopie format: A-M bring appetizers or desert to share, N-Z salads and side dishes.  We estimate 90 members and guests will be on hand again this year.  W&G registration ladies will greet you, and we ask you to thank the Thomas’s for their continued support of Wood & Glory with a $10 per person donation at the door – again going directly to the Thomas’ choice veterans group, Operation Tango Mike.  Contact:  Donna at djthomas3394@gmail.com   Greetings 5:30.  Location: 2850 Eastlake Drive, Kelseyville. (Buckingham Park).

W&G, by design, has left both Thursday and Friday days as “open time” choices for you to enjoy the lake or land to your personal needs.  Visit www.lakecochamber.com. / Destination Magazine for a Lake County overview.  The Dangle’s report some member groups are touring the wineries and countryside, www.lakecountywineries.org)

Or contact Gene & Sue at 925-973-9213 for 3 suggested tour routes.  Others are heading for the Lakeport Sprint Boat races on Friday. Information at www.sprintboatandgrandprix.com or call our John Lawrence at 707-277-7255.

Boatique Winery’s Nahani (hospitality director) invites our members to “hang out” and tour their complete winery facilities, enjoy their front picnic and bocce area along with the aft deck valley view area.  In addition to wine tasting, the Mounts are extending a 20% discount on all wine purchases, and 25% on case purchases to our W&G participants during Thursday & Friday visits to their facilities.  Support your friends and sponsor.  Visit www.boatiquewines.com

The Lahti Family, Mary, John & John Jr., welcome you again (190 attended last year) to their Buckingham Point Friday evening Whoopie lawn party.  The W&G event registration ladies will be on hand for Friday evening arrivals, along with the Sea Scouts to assist with your docking needs.  The dining format again follows the above Whoopie format.  Also bring your Boatique wines, and remember to thank fellow member Ron Hyman who is donating 3 cases of wine to share with you again. Greetings start at 5:30.   Address: 8480 Palace Drive, Kelseyville (Buckingham Park), CA.

On Saturday morning our fleet meets up in Soda Bay (9:30 am) off Clear Lake Vista Resort for a classic boating parade to Konocti Vista Marina show and picnic.  Our 2016 Best of Show winner (and poster child) the Foster’s MAY BE NOT II will lead the fleet to the Casino (not the Lakeport races!)

New this year at the picnic is an enlarged and cordoned off picnic area for our W&G participants, and we have responded to your requests for a lighter lunch menu by offering gourmet box lunch choices from Rosey Cooks.  Barbara Foster & Jane Bane are featuring new W&G soft goods (clothing, accessories) this year, and Dave Lyon will be on hand with his judging crew looking your boats over again – so shine ‘em up boys!  Judging categories include best Chris Craft, Century, Skipper’s Choice, and Best of Show Awards.

Robert, Madi, Nahani and Ralph from Boatique Winery all have “enjoyed” a busy year both at the winery along with our ACBS events. Nahani continues to book special events at the winery and W&G continues to appreciate their considerations in opening their facilities to their W&G boating friends on a no charge basis. Boatique also participated at our STWBC July 2016 Show with an impressive (and popular) wine tasting presentation, and ended the season at ACBS’ Tahoe September International Show by winning Best of Show with their 1955 Chris Craft Cobra – Touch of Glass.  See Bob & Ralph smile!!

Our W&G Saturday evening Boatique Winery Celebration event will start with complimentary wine tasting at 6:00.  Suenran’s Wine Country Catering will be BBQing our dinner with a tri tip entree.  Our silent auction – organized by Allen Thomas – will feature some 12 great items with proceeds benefiting local charities and our chapters fund.
