Sea Scout Ship Challenger receives grant money

Last week, President Barbara Foster, her husband Dan along with Board member Debra Dobbins, husband Lew, ACBS Treasurer Jared Hein, and ACBS member Norm Kitching presented the Sea Scout Ship 145 Challenger with a check for $833.33 to help fund a current project of maintaining, repairing and replacing steel decking on their ship.

Skipper and ACBS member Layne Davis, along with his Scouts proudly posed in front of their ship as Barbara presented the check.  These young men are not only learning how to pilot their 95′ ship, but how to maintain and repair it.  For those of you who have been to the South Tahoe Wooden Boat Classic, you know that these kids come to Tahoe to work at the show, helping with setup, tear down, transporting people from their parking areas to the boat show as well as showing their Scout built wood runabout.

For Spring Fling this year, the Sea Scouts will be bringing their ship Challenger up the Petaluma River to the Petaluma Yacht Club and will be taking us on a river cruise.  You won’t want to miss the opportunity to meet these great kids and to experience the cruise.  A big “thank you” to Skipper Layne Davis for the work he does with the Sea Scouts.
