Wood & Glory is all about people getting together and having a good time.  Boats and water are the common denominator, and this year’s Wood & Glory XVIII (our 18th year) already promises to bring together a lot of special people, classic boats, smooth water, and maybe a little wine, too.

Some of your “W&G special people” include our W&G co-founder Jim Robello who was not paying attention at our last January Board meeting as I volunteered him to be your new W&G Co Chairman.  Among many other things, Jim’s going to be managing the accounting and detailing again our Boatique Winery Dinner activities.

Likewise, past W&G Event Co-Chairman (2014) John Lawrence’s ears perked up as he “tuned into” some conversations about Classic Race Boats being our theme this year. He didn’t object too much as we assigned him to be our W&G XVIII “Race Boat Coordinator”.  See all the fast details below as John pulls this year’s special “CRB” activities together.

Not only is Donna Thomas cooking up a Thursday evening dinner for all of us, she’s also making Allen clean out his side of their Corinthian Bay garage along with his Kelseyville boat shop stuff too.  So here’s your chance members; Allen is going to be heading up – and presenting, our W&G XVIII live auction activities throughout our event – and promises some pretty good treasures to bid on.

And, Lake County Winery Association Executive Director Terry Derenuik recently accepted – with a smile – a personal gift membership to our ACBS organization – courtesy of Susan & Wayne Mooers.  Terry retired from the US Treasury Department management in 2010, and has been active in many aspects of the Lake County agricultural and civic interests – including being an advocate of our W&G Lake County event.

Currently Terry is also helping organize and promote various Lake County relief activities benefiting the recent fire victims – including the upcoming March 20th #Lake County Rising Valley Fire Relief Auction: www.lakecountyrising.org/charity-auction. Welcome and thank Terry and her husband during our W&G activities.  View www.lakecountywineryassociation.org.

Wood & Glory is all about boats – classic boats, and this year’s theme is all about classic race boats (CRB’s).

MADELEINE, the Mounts’ 29’ 1920’s era Gold Cup ‘gentleman racer’ design (Van Dam replicated, 2011) is our fitting W&G XVIII Poster Child.  She will be in our show and on the water along with the Mounts’ 1964 18’ Wickens featuring a 389 cid w/ Tri-Power!

MAYBE NOT II, the 22’ 1931 Lake Tahoe “Lake Championship” Hydroplane racer….has “no maybe” about being at W&G according to our Chapter President Barbara Foster.   This unique racing boat has been under restoration for the past 2 years (Casey Brothers) by the Foster family – (which includes her race boat driver husband Danny Foster Jr!).  We last viewed this special boat in mid February as she was delivered to the Fosters’ Sunnyside, Lake Tahoe home, and all signals back point to Danny & Barbara will be having a re-launching party for this part of Maybe Not II’s history at our W&G event.    Stay tuned for launching and show details.   And, read all about MAYBE NOT II racing history in Carol Van Etten’s book, Lake Champions, 1914-1948.

Register now, and see you real soon.
